I don't even know where to begin with this one. It was very Celtic influenced which is something I loved about it, it included healers which again, love, and then there was an injured prince, and lots of kissing, which was again love.I'll admit I got lost when it came to Dric, Tirel and Yael, and I didn't like the shifting POV's I mean sometimes you can get away with it, and other times, I worry about it adding to the story or taking away from it. In a lot of cases it left me confused.
The violence factor is a little high and I was concerned about some of the references to adult themes, so I'm torn about calling it YA or Adult, but maybe it's just New Adult, that would make the most sense to me. A lot of the violence was jarring and immediate, not to mention eye opening.
Thankfully readers you can rest assured that while this doesn't have a happily ever after ending, it does have a satisfying ending and there's no cliff hanger.
I wonder if Jen is planning a sequel to it, I look forward to it.

I absolutely LOVED this book!!! Everything about it made me want to read more and more and more! I stayed up all night reading this book and when my mom interrupted me when I was at a really good part, I actually got mad and was just itching to get back to reading the entire time I had to talk to her. Yeah, it's one of those books ) Shara was such a good main character for this book, with her subtle beauty and growth in confidence and power. I loved following her story and feeling everything she felt as not one, not two, but THREE men fell in love with her. When I thought about the three different guys that liked one girl, I was like there is NO way I am going to like a book like this, but I loved it! I must say my favorite of the three guys was Dric, with his protective ways and an overall strong, manly aura about him. I can't tell you who she actually end up with, but I really liked how it ended. Maybe there's room for another book about this storyline? I hope so since it's Jen Wylie's debut novel! I would love to see more of Anna, David's sister, because she worked so hard to make everybody around her happy that I don't even know if she was happy herself. But the only problem that I had with Sweet Light is I felt like some things moved too fast. I would have loved for things to develop more slowly so that I could have more time enjoying the emotions and moments with the characters. I don't know, maybe I just didn't want this book to end! It was such a good fantasy romance that had a hint of the historical genre (with kings, castles, and battles), which is exactly my cup of tea.
Shara is a Healer. In her homeland, Healers are gifted with magic that they use to help others. It's sacred, and she comes from a land that is far different from Glendor, where she's been summoned to during a war. After their camp is attacked, she rides off on horseback and stumbles across an injured soldier. She nurses him back to health, and they set off on a journey back to their home. Even though the soldier can't speak, Shara is falling in love with him more and more every day, until the moment his identity is revealed to her. She knows she's not supposed to love him, but she can't help it, and this sets in motion a chain of events and a downward spiral with love interests as her heart is provoked by not just one man, but by three.
Jen Wylie is one of my favorite authors. Not only can she tell amazing stories, she does so with passion and in a way that is completely unlike anything on the market. Sweet Light is original, and I was sucked into the world, feeling everything that Shara felt.
This story is filled with magic, fantasy, and romance. Although David was the first guy on the scene, I have to admit I'm kind of a Team Tirel girl myself. There's just something about him that makes me go all weak in the knees. Sigh. But I think any reader will have a difficult time choosing any of the three. They each offer Shara something wonderful in their own way.
A little ways past the half of the book, things turn dark. I did NOT see it coming. I was completely blindsided. I always know which way a story is going to go, but I didn't see this. It gripped my heart, and I couldn't flip the pages fast enough. Shara is tested time and time again. She's an amazingly strong character, and I don't give spoilers, but I'm satisfied with the ending--how everything turned out for her. Any other ending and I would have been climbing the walls. This is definitely an emotional read. Beautiful prose and beautiful story. I recommend it to any and everyone who love Fantasy and Romance!
This author ROCKS! I have not read a book yet that I did not love and I have read every book she has written. Great story, can't wait until the second book comes out.
Shara is a journeyman healer from a neighboring country sent to the front lines by King Darren of Glendor to assist his army in the fight against northern barbarians. Separated from the retreating forces in a surprise skirmish, she stumbles upon a badly wounded soldier in the woods. Against her more professional instincts, Shara comes to fall in love with her dreamy, blue-eyed companion as they slowly make their way back to the capitol. The story goes on to reveal his true identity and their struggle to overcome class barriers in the face of opposition to their burgeoning love. Between her struggles for acceptance at court, the re-emergence of past lovers, and the ongoing battle against invading forces, Wylie weaves an enticing and uniquely original novel - full of plot twists and wistful courtships. Highly recommended!
I really love how she is able to create an entire world and make it very believable. All of her characters really come to life and they are all very likeable and feel like real people. She has created such a large world with so many characters she couldn't finish the story in just one book. She is currently working on the sequel and I am early looking forward to this. I was so caught up in the story, the characters and the world I read this in one day! I love Jen's books and I highly recommend them to anyone!
