Bring Me Back A Novel B A Paris 9781250151339 Books

I hate to write negative reviews, but I do not understand the raving reviews of this book. I absolutely loved Behind Closed Doors, so much so that I pre-ordered Bring Me Back as soon as I heard about it. What a disappointment. It was slow, meandering and not in the least bit compelling. Maybe that is because it was hard to be invested in or care about any of the characters - none were likeable. The storyline with the Russian dolls just seemed silly to me. If you like psychological thrillers, there a many better choices.

Bring Me Back A Novel B A Paris 9781250151339 Books Reviews

After reading the Breakdown and Behind Closed Doors (I recommend both by the way), I was excited to see B.A. Paris had a new book, Bring Me Back. The excitement soon faded as I read more and more on the book. The main problem of the book was the main character. I found him to be selfish, immature, and borderline stupid. There was no character in the book that I “rooted” for. The ending was predictable (I guessed it about halfway through). The very last line of the book was really good though. If you have never read B.A. Paris before please read her other books and stop there.
Bring Me Back by B. A. Paris was one hell of a head-game. Twelve years ago life was perfect for Finn McQuaid- a solid career and he’s stumbled upon the love of his life, Layla, as she is roaming the streets of London on New Years Eve. It’s an instant connection, a genuine love at first sight. They are soon engaged, but there’s trouble in paradise. In an effort to rekindle their passion Finn and Layla take off on a romantic getaway. This is the moment their life changes forever.
When Finn pulls over at a rest area, Layla is sleeping in the passenger seat. Not wanting to disturb her, he leaves the car and when she comes back, she’s vanished. (Or so he tells the police.) Finn picturesque life is immediately brought to shambles. In the wake of this tragedy, he’s brought closer to Layla’s sister, Ellen. Ellen is like Layla, but without any of the minor annoyances of naive Layla. Finn soon finds himself enamored with Ellen. He begins to rewrite his life, fall back into the normal blissful cadence of life when yellow Russian dolls begin to appear, their significance only Finn and Ellen would know. Who could be sending these messages? But how is that possible when she’s been dead for years? Is it possible that Layla isn’t dead after all?
What ensues is a tale that will constantly leave you guessing. Just when you’ve think you’ve figured it out, an unexpected twist has you reevaluating your every thought. I found myself inside Finn’s head, dealing with the consequences of his lies with him. I found myself wondering what was reality and what simply had to be a figment of the imagination. The ending will leave you dizzy with the realization that things aren’t always as they seem.
I received a copy of Bring Me Back from St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for my honest review. I would also like to thank B. A. Paris for crafting yet another story that captivates and intrigues all the way through!
I have no idea why some reviews were bad, or why people complained about the ending. This is a twisty physiological thriller, so in my opinion if you read this kind of book, you should be thrilled with the twisty, shocking conclusion. Anyway, I absolutely love this Author, she's one of my favorites. This book is every bit as good as her other two. It keeps you guessing throughout, right up to the very end. Its well written, with complex characters. Do yourself a huge favor, don't miss this one!
I loved it! Kept me guessing until the end. Only reason why I am giving 4 stars is because I hated the ending but overall I loved the book! Highly recommend if you are in the market for a suspenseful thriller!
I waited patiently, even reading the five-chapter teaser, for this book. Behind Closed Doors was one of my all-time favorites. Her next novel was okay, but not great, so I figured this one would knock my socks off, but instead, it knocked me unconscious from tedium and characters that I regretted ever meeting. I have a set of Russian dolls, like the ones that were mentioned almost every other page, and I think I may take a sledge hammer to them, just so that they don’t remind me of this book. Perhaps Ms. Paris only had one outstanding book inside her, and that one was worth every second spent reading and re-reading it. Bring Me Back was not.
I really enjoyed the previous two novels written by B. A. Paris, so my 3 stars for Bring Me Back were given out of respect for her talent. But, please, enough with the Russian dolls. I wouldn't even want to count how many times those words were mentioned. I also figured out midway through where the author was taking us. I could elaborate, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone else who decides to spend time and money on this one. Not her best work.
An easy read (the only reason for 2 stars and not 1) with an absolutely LUDICROUS ending. Really???? Terrible. BA has been chasing a hit since Behind Closed Doors (10 stars if I could). This was campy and awful. The conversations were repetitive and always rehashed in a retelling. And I swear if I saw the phrase RUSSIAN DOLL one more time....
