Unfortunately, while this book could have been good, the silliness and rather servile nature of the "heroine" (even when she was working her tail off oystering) and of the story, was so bad that I wouldn't have finished the book except that I was on a bus and had nothing else to read. The book also suffers from poor editing. The setting, near Galway and Galway Bay in Ireland, where the group of islands called the Aran Islands are -- unfortunately in this book they become the Arran Islands -- Arran Island (singular) is near Scotland. This is just one of a number of unfortunate mistakes which either a dedicated author, or a talented editor (or both) should have caught and corrected.

I live on an island and have been around oysters (wild and cultivated) all my life..............and yes, I've been to the Aran Islands (twice) and to Galway, although I live on the east coast of America.

Nice read yet feels a bit hurried. Nevertheless glad i read it. A good, even though a bit cliched, love story.
This would make a great Hallmark movie. Predictable plot and a fairy tale ending but made for a good vacation read.
The Oyster-Catchers gives a great picture of Galway Bay and the oyster industry. I found myself caught up in the lives of the characters; would they succeed or fail? This will be a good selection for vacation or stay-at-home reading. I look forward to another book by this author.
outcome predictable from the start
I really enjoyed the book!
Excellent holiday read. Relaxing, interesting, very informative; I learned a lot about Ireland and its culture, and about oysters and the farming of them. The story was well told. This writer knows how to write and to keep her readers interested. I am already looking forward to her next book.
The Oyster Catcher has a predictable overall storyline, but all the sub-storylines really make it an interesting and often humorous read. It's a good book for a summer holiday.
